SEVENDUST Prepare For Acoustic Dates, Tour With STAIND
July 25, 2003SEVENDUST drummer Morgan Rose recently spoke to MTV.com about the band's touring plans following the release of their as-yet-untitled new album this fall. The group have routinely played more than 200 concerts per year and have shared the stage with such former opening bands as STAIND, DISTURBED and SYSTEM OF A DOWN.
"I can't point the finger at anybody or anything, but it's really ironic when you look at the bands that opened up for us and see how many records they've [since] sold," Rose said. "I don't really know what the deal is with that, but I think we've influenced a lot of those bands."
The group, who fourth album is tentatively slated for release in October through TVT Records, will embark on a headlining tour in August, to be followed by a batch of acoustic dates beginning on September 10 in Tampa, Florida.
"Doing acoustic sets was always tough for us, but then we started screwing around with some of the songs and changing the beats a bit and reinventing things and that turned out really cool," Rose said. "We were invited to do [an acoustic] set in Orlando, and we did it, and the vibe was great. It was so weird. Here's a band that usually tries to destroy everything in sight for 90 minutes, and we're just sitting up there on stools for an hour and playing. We're usually so out of control onstage, so to stop for a minute and take a breather and play like that was a breath of fresh air."
SEVENDUST had originally planned a longer acoustic tour, but they had to alter their plans after being invited to open for STAIND beginning in late September.
"I'd love to have played as many acoustic things as we could, because it allows me to save my body for a few days and not put it through that damn washer and dryer every night," Rose said. "But we're gonna go through a lot of major markets with STAIND, and it didn't make sense to run through acoustic and then come back a week later."
